Key Features of the OTD Degree Program
  • State-of-the-art classrooms and research laboratories in the Howard L. Collier building which houses the College of Health Sciences  and the College of Nursing.
  • Outstanding faculty with national reputations in the field of occupational therapy.
  • Well-qualified, talented students who take responsibility for their learning and raise the level of inquiry for their peers.
  • Classes held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in order to facilitate entry of adults with other responsibilities.
  • Highly integrated occupational therapy coursework devoted to a solid understanding of theory, research, and practice skills.
  • A comprehensive four-course research sequence that challenges students to investigate topics that will advance the understanding of therapeutic occupation and the profession.
  • Integrated coursework in leadership, management, teaching and learning, and professional issues to prepare students to be effective advocates in diverse practice settings.
  • Integrated fieldwork seminars designed to facilitate the application of classroom concepts and skills to practice settings.
  • Fieldwork experiences in each semester expose students to the breath of OT practice areas and help students apply coursework to clinical practice.
  • Two, twelve-week fieldwork experiences that allow learners to begin practicing the skills of an entry level therapist while critically reflecting upon and using their acquired knowledge.
  • An individually planned capstone fieldwork practicum allows students to develop specialized skills in a practice area of choice (e.g., pediatrics, gerontology, hand therapy, community-based practice, management, or education).
  • An exchange program with the prestigious Karolinska Institute of Stockholm offers opportunities for fieldwork experiences in Europe.
