STRUCTURE OF THE CLERKSHIP

The surgery student's clerkship consists of a 12 week program with 3 rotations.  Two months of the rotation will consist of general surgery at The University of Toledo Medical Center, St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center and various AHEC sites.  The students may select one month of a surgery subspecialty consisting of otolaryngology, neurosurgery, neurosciences, orthopaedic surgery, urology, cardiothoracic surgery, and emergency medicine.  The objective of the clinical rotation is to learn surgical concepts and management skills.

The students will participate in two eight hour lecture series per month and will participate in a surgery OSCE demonstrating their skills they have learned.  On the last week before the final exam is given, the students will attend an oral examination session.
