Student Society
The J.D. Michaels Physician Assistant Student Society aims to promote the Physician Assistant (PA) profession within the University of Toledo (UT) and throughout the greater Toledo community. Members of this society represent the UT PA program on both the state and national levels. The J.D. Michaels Physician Assistant Student Society is registered as a member of the Student Academy of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (SAAAPA) and is eligible to participate in the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) National Medical Challenge Bowl, the AAPA Assembly of Representatives (AOR), and the AAPA House of Delegates (HOD) meetings. Members of the J.D. Michaels Physician Assistant Student Society participate in a number of events in the community and on campus, including: National PA Week (October 6 -12), host a family day, and participation in numerous other charity events.
RECENT SAAAPA EVENTS:
May 2008 - AAPA National Conference
One of the SAAAPA Officers, Maggi Bulla-Wallace went to the AAPA National Conference in San Antonio, Texas to take part in national SAAAPA events. SAAAPA members collected and donated books for Maggi to take to the conference and donate to the AAPA Reads campaign. Maggi participated in the AOR meetings while in San Antonio.
May 2008 - Donations
SAAAPA members donated non-perishable items to the local Battered Women's Shelter.
March 2008 - PA Student Volunteers
Numerous 1st and 2nd year SAAAPA members volunteered their time and efforts to support Hampton on the Trail - Inaugural 5k Run & 3k Walk to benefit the James Hampton Scholarship Foundation at UT. Please read more about this great event and cause: Hampton on the Trail
March 2008 - PA Awareness
A PA student visited Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio to increase awareness of the PA profession.
February 2008 - PA Student Bake Sale
On Friday, February 22, 2008, SAAAPA held a bake sale at the UT Medical Center Cafeteria to raise funds for a fellow PA student who recently lost her home to fire. The event was a huge success, with over $600 raised and donated. 
October 2007 - National PA Week 2007 (October 6 -12)
During PA Week, the PA students organized 5 events to increase awareness of and knowledge about
the Physician Assistant (PA) profession while also helping the community.
All of the events were successful:
1) The Race for Victory - 5k Charity Run / Walk

On Monday, October 8, 2007 the 1st year PA students held a Bake Sale and distributed PA information sheets
at the UT Medical Center Cafeteria.
3) PA Information table @ The Toledo Hospital
On Wednesday, October 10, 2007 PA students distributed PA informational sheets and discussed the
PA profession @ The Toledo Hospital.
4) PA Student Bake Sale
On Thursday, October 11, 2007 the 2nd year PA students held a Bake Sale and distributed PA
information sheets at the UT Medical Center Cafeteria.
