IMSA

The Islamic Medical Student Association (IMSA) at UT HSC was formed to:

  1. Promote a better understanding, appreciation and propagation of Islam
  2. To encourage professional interaction between Muslim physicians and other Allied Health Professionals and physicians
  3. To assist in the orientation, adjustment and training of Muslim Physicians and Health Professionals new to North America
  4. To promote and facilitate medical education, research, publications and improved health care services throughout the world
  5. To participate in medical relief work and other charitable activities.

Since the national Islamic Medical Student Association was organized by a small number of Muslim physicians in 1967, IMSA has come a long way. It is more than simply a professional organization. The IMSA provides a unified platform for Muslim physicians, allied health professionals, resident physicians, and students to discuss issues and share ideas relevant to Muslims in North America and around the world. Members of the IMSA enrich their professional knowledge, learn about Islamic medicine, the theory, and practice of Islamic medical ethics, and promote better health care internationally. Members benefit from professional and social support and by strengthening their understanding and practice of Islam.
