Congratulations! Pablo Serrano, Master of Science, IIT track, Biomedical Sciences. Pablo successfully defended his thesis, "Mechanisms of induction of CCL20 in lung epithelial cells by Moraxella catarrhalis," on Wednesday, June 18, 2008. (mentor: Dr. Z. Kevin Pan). In July, Pablo will be finishing his masters in public health and continuing his residency in General Surgery at the University of Toledo. He is planning on writing a paper of his research and presenting it at the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress, October 2008. |

Congratulations! Diane Ammons! Diane, Assistant to Dr. Takashima, was nominated for and won UT's 2008 Outstanding Staff Award on June 12th, along with 9 other awardees...chosen out of 75 nominees. The prizes for this award is a beautifully engraved glass plaque and check. The awards ceremony took place at Nitschke Hall on main campus. Dr. Randall Worth, Assistant Professor in medical microbiology and immunology, is one of six UT College of Medicine interdisciplinary research teams to receive a $100,000 grant for translational research studies. Dr. Worth, P.I., is studying an inquiry into platelet dysfunction in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) with Drs. William Gunning; Bashar Kahaleh, and Da-Zhong Zhuang. | |||
