The Department of Medicine has dedicated education time, including a strong didactic conference schedule, to provide a basic foundation of medical knowledge and skills to enhance and encourage resident education.
Conferences are held every Wednesday from 9:00 am till noon and include:
Eighteen month curriculum cycle with parallel lecture series at UT Medical Center & St Vincent Mercy Medical Center SVMMC that include general & subspecialty internal medicine, women's health, medical ethics, legal medicine, epidemiology, medical informatics, practice management, and managed care.

Attending physicians in each subspecialty moderates all conferences and residents are required to participate. A full range of service and teaching conferences are also held at all affiliated institutions
Throughout training, a primary responsibility of senior residents is teaching more junior residents and the students on their service. They are also responsible for the assignment of cases, clinical supervision of medical students and residents, and preparing material for service and teaching conferences.
Morning Report is held daily and allows the residents to present and discuss an educational point from a case admitted the previous night. Discussion is lead by a faculty member and the Chief Medical Resident.
