Fellowship Programs - Infectious Diseases
The fellowship is comprised of two years of training. Twelve months of clinical work are dispersed over two hospitals, the University Medical Center and St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. Eight months are spent at University Medical Center. Two months are spent at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. The twelfth month is spent dealing with pediatric infectious disease problems at various hospitals in Toledo. One month is spent in the BM Transplant Center at Wayne State. One month is spent at Integrated Laboratories. Nine months are spent on research with one of the attendings or in the laboratory of other faculty members in the Department of Microbiology. The remaining two months are vacation months.
The fellow spends one morning a week throughout the two years in an outpatient clinic where he/she will follow a cohort of patients, 80% of which will be HIV-infected. The fellow will always be in clinic with an attending physician present.
The goal of the fellowship is to prepare the fellow for the practice of Infectious Diseases after passing the subspecialty examination in Infectious Diseases.
