The Electron Microscopy Facility located on the Health Science Campus of the University of Toledo serves as an ultrastructural diagnostic laboratory for the Department of Pathology and is a one of the core laboratories for basic science research.
As a pathology laboratory, the center specializes in the evaluation of platelet dysfunction with special emphasis in studying platelet dense granule (delta) storage pool deficiency, a condition that can cause easy bruising and frequent nose bleeds, and appears to be common in women with clinically diagnosed menorrhagia.
The diagnostic service component of the lab also includes evaluation of renal, muscle, nerve, and neoplastic diseases. The facility is also supports scientists all over the world working in the fields of cancer biology, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, immunology, and neurosciences.
