The Cancer Center is organizationally structured in a manner that is consistent with that expected by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for its designated cancer centers and as described in the
NCI Cancer Centers Branch Web site. One of the center's goals is to capitalize and build on its unique resources to attain distinction as a NCI designated cancer center.
The clinical faculty associated with the center are also affiliated with the
UMC Cancer Institute and have the knowledge and expertise to provide the regional population with the cutting- edge, state-of-the-art therapy and Phase III clinical trials, as well as more innovative experimental cancer treatments that are not available elsewhere in the region.

Center Steering CommitteeThe center steering committee consists of program directors, key basic scientists and leaders in medicine and medical oncology, as well as institutional officials (ex-officio). The organization of the center complements the existing departmental administrative structure. Cancer center faculty have appointments in one or more UT departments.
The responsibilities of new faculty recruitment and allocation of laboratory space within the center are shared by the center's director and the appropriate department chair. Faculty may be associated with the Cancer Center as principal investigators, co-investigators or as clinician associates.
